Councillor John Divers
Councillor for Elgin City South
John Divers was first elected to the Moray Council in 1999 for the New Elgin East ward. He was re-elected in 2003 and in 2007 for the enlarged ward of Elgin City South, whereupon he became leader of the Labour Group. John was elected to a sixth term in May 2022.
John came to Moray in the 1970s, serving in the Royal Naval Air Service. He has lived in New Elgin for 40 years with his wife, Jean.
After his service in the Royal Navy came to an end, John worked at Ardersier, where he served as a shop steward. John has been active in Moray Trades Council ever since, having served as its chairman. He latterly worked as a support worker.
John is a keen sports fan, and can regularly be found on the terraces at Borough Briggs and on the Cooper Park Cricket Pitch.
