Highlands and Islands MSP Rhoda Grant has lodged a Bill with the Scottish Parliament, which aims to enshrine a Right To Food into Scots Law.
Based upon a Bill previously pursued by former Central Scotland MSP Elaine Smith, the Bill would establish a new, publicly-owned organisation, which would oversee this right.
When explaining her reasons for lodging this Bill, Mrs Grant wrote:
“Access to food is a human right, but it is currently being denied to too many people in Scotland. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this and increased the need for action to be taken to address this problem.”
The Bill must now find support from MSPs, and Mrs Grant is urging people to write to their own MSPs asking for them to support her Bill.
